                        Research Achievements:

BioSciences:

Ø     Developed a PCR based sex determination assay for buffalo preimplantation embryos.

Ø     Determined that IVF cultured male buffalo embryos develop faster than their female counterparts.

Ø     Developed a Structural model for pore formation by YGNGV motif containing bacteriocins.

Ø     First ever wide spectrum bacteriocin from Lactobacillus acidophilus S2, christened as  acidocin S2, was detected, production optimized, purified, characterized and found effective in controlling the total plate count (TPC) in processed cheese

Ø     A new classification scheme for Lactobacillus bacteriocins was developed.

Bioinformatics:

Ø     Deciphered antimicrobial polypeptide oligomerization using second generation force field and Genetic algorithm.

Ø     Developed a Win32 based (using VC++ 6.0 & MFC) database application for Identification of polypeptide bacteriocins from their amino acid composition, Bacteriocin data management and Isoelectric point calculation.

Ø     Developed a molecule Viewer using java 3D API and implemented genetic algorithm, steepest descents and Molecular Dynamics algorithm for protein modeling.

Ø     Designed and teaching Databases & Sequence analysis and Protein modeling courses at NDRI to M.Sc./Ph.D. students in Biological streams.

 

Internet Services:

Ø     Designed and Developed the web site of the institute using DHTML, ASP, ASP.NET, C#, Java, JavaScript, VBScript, Database and Multimedia Technologies.

Ø     Developed a number of databases using MSAccess and along with web enabled query interfaces using ASP & ODBC and ASP.NET & C#.

Ø     Developed hierarchical menus for web pages using XML, DHTML, JavaScript and C#.

Teaching/Training Achievements:

Ø     Teaching Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology of the gene, Advances in cellular & molecular biology, Enzyme Technology, Physical Principles in Biochemistry, Presentastion skills and Advanced Research Techniques Courses to M.Sc./Ph.D Students.

Ø     Guided an 2 M.Sc. students (Animal Biotechnology) as Major Advisor.

Ø     Guiding an 3 M.Sc. students (Animal Biochemistry) as Major Advisor.

Ø      Worked as an examiner in various internal and external examinations.

Ø     Guided 14 B.Tech (Computer Science/ IT/ Biotechnology) students in Web site development, C++, java, ASP and ASP.NET/C#  Technologies to complete their industrial project training (2 months duration each).

Ø      Imparted training to ~400 faculty level participants in BioTech/InfoTech in more than 20 faculty training programmes organized at NDRI.
